Ruling on Qasr Prayer During Short Stay at One’s Own Home

Source: Fatāwā Muḥammadiyyah, Vol. 1, p. 525

❖ Question

If a person works in Lahore but returns to his hometown for one or two days, can he perform qasr (shortened) prayers during this brief stay at his home?

✿ Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!

  • Even if the stay at home is short (one or two days), the person is considered a resident (muqīm) in his own house.
  • Qasr is not permissible for a resident.
  • Qasr is exclusively for travellers (musāfir).

✅ Conclusion

During any stay in one’s own home, regardless of whether it is long or short, the person is a resident and must perform full prayers.
