Ruling on Purchasing and Using Debris from an Old Mosque

❖ Question:​

Is it permissible for someone to purchase and use old debris such as wooden beams from a mosque?

❖ Answer:​

If the mosque has no further need for the old materials, and the mutawallī (trustee) of the mosque or the congregants decide to sell the old items in order to purchase new ones, then it is permissible. There is no reason for prohibition in such a case.
