Ruling on Prostration of Forgetfulness When Imam is Prompted by a Follower

Source: Fatawa of Ahl-e-Hadith Scholars, Kitab al-Salah, Volume 1, Page 246

❖ Question:

If the Imam forgets during the recitation and a follower prompts him, does it become obligatory for the Imam to perform Sajdah Sahw (prostration of forgetfulness)?

❖ Answer:

Prompting the Imam (by giving a luqmah) when he forgets does not necessitate Sajdah Sahw. If a follower helps the Imam remember during recitation, this does not make Sajdah Sahw obligatory upon the Imam.
