A person experiences nocturnal emission (iḥtilām) during the night but remains unaware of it. He wakes up, performs wuḍūʼ, and offers Tahajjud prayer, proceeds to the mosque for Fajr, recites Qur’an, and performs Ishrāq prayer.
Later — an hour or two after — he notices semen stains on his clothes, confirming that he had a wet dream.
Should he repeat the Tahajjud, Fajr, and Ishrāq prayers?
There are two scholarly opinions regarding this issue.
The preferable opinion is that he should repeat all the prayers he performed after the occurrence of janābah (ritual impurity) and before performing ghusl.
➤ Ghusl is obligatory after nocturnal emission.
➤ Any prayer performed in a state of janābah without knowledge is invalid once the impurity is confirmed.
➤ Upon realization, he should perform ghusl and then repeat those prayers.
✔ If a person realizes after the fact that he was in a state of ritual impurity,
✔ It is better and more precautionary to repeat all those prayers that were performed while he was unknowingly in the state of janābah.
