Ruling on Placing Flowers in the Mosque for Fragrance

📚 Source: Ahkam wa Masail in the Light of Qur’an and Hadith, Volume 02

❖ Question

Is it permissible to place flowers in mosques for the purpose of fragrance?

❖ Answer

Yes, it is permissible. Flowers are a form of fragrance, and placing them in the mosque, or applying perfumes (ʿiṭr), is valid and commendable.

There are explicit Hadiths encouraging the perfuming of mosques, although this Sunnah has unfortunately become almost forgotten in present-day India.
