‘Umrah and the 27th of the Month: Avoiding Innovation
Taken from: Fatāwā Amanpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amanpuri
What is the ruling on specifying the 27th of a month for performing ‘Umrah?
It is not permissible. Specifying a particular time, place, or day for an act of worship is the prerogative of the Shari‘ah. If the Shari‘ah has not designated a certain date for an act, then linking that act to a specific date makes it an innovation (bid‘ah). Such practices must be avoided. The Shari‘ah has neither required nor recommended the 27th of any month for ‘Umrah; therefore, to specify it is prohibited.
