❖ The Ruling on Performing ʿUmrah on Behalf of a Living and Healthy Person ❖
By: Fadhilatul Baḥith Nauman Khaliq ḥafiẓahullah

❖ Question:

Is it permissible to perform ʿUmrah on behalf of someone who is alive and healthy?

❖ Answer:

Islamic jurisprudence establishes two essential conditions for performing Ḥajj or ʿUmrah on behalf of another person (Badal):

➊ The person performing Ḥajj or ʿUmrah (on someone else's behalf)

must have already performed his/her own obligatory Ḥajj or ʿUmrah.

➋ The person on whose behalf the pilgrimage is performed

must be either deceased,
or so physically ill that they are permanently unable to travel.

❖ Conclusion:

🛑 It is not permissible in Sharīʿah to perform ʿUmrah on behalf of a person who is alive and in good health.
Such an action does not fulfill any valid religious obligation, and it goes against the principles established in the Sunnah and juristic consensus.
