Ruling on Hajj Without Tawaf al-Ifadah and Explanation of Second Tahallul
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām
What is the ruling for someone who, due to ignorance, omits Tawaf al-Ifadah during Hajj?
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
✿ Tawaf al-Ifadah is a pillar (rukn) of Hajj, and without it, Hajj is incomplete.
✿ If a person omits Tawaf al-Ifadah out of ignorance or lack of awareness, it is obligatory for him to return and perform it — even if this means coming back from his home country.
✿ Until he performs Tawaf al-Ifadah, it is not permissible for him to have marital relations with his wife, because he has not yet achieved Tahallul Thani (the second and complete release from Ihram).
✿ Tahallul Thani is only achieved after performing Tawaf al-Ifadah.
✿ In addition, Sa’i between Ṣafā and Marwah is also obligatory if it has not been done earlier with Tawaf al-Qudum. This applies to all types of Hajj — Tamattuʿ, Qirān, or Ifrād.
