Ruling on Offering Ẓuhr After Joining Jumuʿah in the Final Tashahhud

❀ Question:

A person joined the Jumuʿah prayer in its final tashahhud. Should he:

① Stand up and offer Ẓuhr prayer immediately, or
② Wait until the congregation completely finishes and then offer Ẓuhr separately?

Also, if he already stood up after tashahhud and prayed Ẓuhr, is this action valid?

❖ Answer by:

Al-ʿĀlim al-Faḍīl Fahd Anṣārī (حفظه الله)

◈ Ruling:

According to the majority of scholars (jumhūr ʿulamāʼ):

This action is valid.
✔ If someone joins Jumuʿah prayer only in the tashahhud, then he has not caught the Jumuʿah.
✔ Therefore, he is required to perform Ẓuhr prayer.

➤ Whether he performs it immediately after tashahhud
➤ Or waits for the imam to complete the prayer
Both are permissible, and his Ẓuhr will be valid.

◈ Summary:

① Joining Jumuʿah in tashahhud does not count as having caught Jumuʿah.
② The person must perform 4 rakʿāt of Ẓuhr prayer.
Praying Ẓuhr immediately after tashahhud is valid.
④ There is no harm if one waits for the congregation to finish first.
