❀ Ruling on a Prayer Without Sajdah Sahu: A Key Fatwā ❀
Based on: Fatāwā ʿIlmiyyah, Vol. 1, Kitāb aṣ-Ṣalāh, Page 403
What is the ruling if Sajdah Sahu (prostration of forgetfulness) is missed?
In a specific scenario:
The Imām prayed three rakʿāt, then sat for tashahhud. A muqtadī prompted him (gave luqmah), so he stood up and completed the fourth rakʿah, but did not perform Sajdah Sahu.
In this case, is the prayer valid for the Imām and the followers? Should it be repeated?
(Asked by: Ẓafar Iqbāl, Kamra)
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā baʿd!
In this scenario, repeating the prayer is not established from the Qur’ān, Sunnah, or reliable scholarly opinion.
✔ The prayer is valid and accepted for both Imām and muqtadīn.
✔ There is no need to repeat it, even though Sajdah Sahu was missed, because the primary obligation of the prayer was fulfilled, and Sajdah Sahu is a compensatory Sunnah—not a pillar that invalidates the entire ṣalāh when forgotten.
