❀ Marriage of an Ahl-e-Hadith Girl with a Man of Shirkī or Bidʿatī Beliefs ❀
Can an Ahl-e-Hadith girl marry a person who holds beliefs of shirk or bidʿah? And is it permissible for an imam to officiate such a marriage?
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
Allah ﷻ commands in the Qur’an:
﴿وَلَا تُنكِحُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ حَتَّىٰ يُؤۡمِنُواْۚ﴾
(Al-Baqarah: 221)
"Do not marry your women to the polytheists until they believe."
This noble verse addresses all judges, rulers, and nikāḥ officiants, prohibiting them from conducting such marriages.
Allah ﷻ also states:
﴿لَا هُنَّ حِلّٞ لَّهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّۖ﴾
(Al-Mumtaḥanah: 10)
"They (believing women) are not lawful for them (disbelievers), nor are they (disbelievers) lawful for them."
It is clear from these verses that every mushrik becomes a disbeliever due to shirk akbar (major shirk).
The matter of sects such as Barelvi, Deobandi, and Ahl-e-Hadith differs from the general rule, because:
◈ Some individuals within these groups fall into shirk and kufr.
◈ Others remain upon tawḥīd and īmān.
It is therefore necessary to carefully examine the individual’s beliefs before proceeding with marriage.
An Ahl-e-Hadith girl cannot be given in marriage to a man holding shirkī or kufr-based beliefs, and an imam must not officiate such a nikāḥ.
