A man is alone in his shop at the time of congregational prayer. He calls someone to establish the congregation and performs the farḍ with him, but the sunan al-rawātib (regular Sunnahs) are left out. Can he perform these Sunnahs later when he is free?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
◈ The best and Sunnah method is to perform the sunan al-rawātib along with the prayer:
✿ Sunnahs before the farḍ should be performed before.
✿ Sunnahs after the farḍ should be performed immediately after.
◈ It is not permissible to abandon Sunnahs or to make it a habit to neglect them.
◈ To show disregard for Sunnahs is a great deprivation.
◈ On one occasion, when the delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ, the two Sunnahs after Ẓuhr were missed. The Prophet ﷺ performed those Sunnahs after ʿAṣr prayer.
✿ From this, it is proven that making up missed Sunnahs is permissible, even after their usual time has passed.
