Ruling on Keeping Taxidermied Animals in Islam

Authored by: Dr. Muhammad Zia ur-Rahman Azmi رحمه الله

✔ Ruling:

Keeping a taxidermied animal is not considered equivalent to possessing a prohibited image, as it is a creation of Allah. However, there are important conditions to note:
If the animal is of a type whose meat is not permissible to eat, then it is considered impure, and keeping it is not allowed.

If the animal is generally halal to eat but was not slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines, it is still impure and impermissible to keep.

If the animal is halal and was slaughtered in accordance with Shari‘ah, and then preserved through taxidermy,
there is no harm in keeping it.

⚠ However, if a large sum of money is spent on this process, it may fall under the category of wasting wealth, which is also discouraged.
