Ruling on Husband and Wife Removing Each Other’s Pubic Hair
Source: Fatāwā ‘Ilmiyyah (Tawdīḥ al-Aḥkām)
If a husband asks his wife to remove his pubic hair and he, in turn, removes hers, and this act is carried out with mutual consent and pleasure — is it permissible in Sharī‘ah?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh, ammā ba‘d!
From the perspective of Islamic Sharī‘ah, there appears to be no prohibition in this act because:
✿ A husband and wife are permitted to look at all parts of each other’s body.
✿ Both are allowed to derive physical benefits from one another.
✿ If looking at each other’s body is permissible, then removing each other’s pubic hair is also permissible.
✿ There is no Shar‘ī impediment or prohibition in this matter.
Allah ﷻ has described spouses as garments for each other, as mentioned in the Qur’an:
﴿هُنَّ لِباسٌ لَكُم وَأَنتُم لِباسٌ لَهُنَّ…١٨٧﴾
(Sūrah al-Baqarah)
“They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them.”
This verse indicates that within the bounds of Sharī‘ah, there is no restriction on physical closeness or acts of personal care between husband and wife.
