❖ The Question
What is the ruling of giving adhān during travel?
❖ The Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
Giving adhān during travel is legislated (mashrūʿ) and recommended (mustaḥabb). Authentic aḥādīth and reports from the Salaf establish this practice.
❀ Imām Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Qurṭubī رحمه الله (d. 656 AH) said:
كافة العلماء على استحباب الأذان للمسافر
“All the scholars agree on the recommendation of giving adhān for the traveler.”
(al-Mufhim, 2/300; al-Tawḍīḥ by Ibn al-Mulaqqin, 6/380; ʿUmdat al-Qārī by al-ʿAynī, 5/143)
❖ Conclusion
Thus, giving adhān during travel is Sunnah and mustaḥabb, and this is the consensus of the scholars.
