Ruling on Constructing a School on Land Endowed for a Mosque

Author: Dr. Muhammad Zia-ur-Rahman Azmi (رحمہ اللہ)

Constructing a School on Land Endowed for the Mosque

The land endowed (waqf) for a mosque remains under the category of the mosque. Therefore, it is not permissible to convert it into a school because this would alter the waqf’s intended purpose, as set by the one who endowed it. However, while maintaining its endowment status for the mosque, it is permissible to teach children at that place or within the mosque itself.
