Question:
What is the ruling on a person who considers intoxicants permissible?

Answer:
Intoxication is categorically ḥarām, and declaring it permissible is kufr.

❀ Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله, 728 AH) states:

إنه يحرم بلا نزاع بين المسلمين ومن استحل السكر من هذه الأمور فهو كافر .

"There is no dispute among the Muslims that intoxication is prohibited. Whoever considers it permissible to become intoxicated through these means is a disbeliever."
(Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā: 10/11, 23/357)
