It is narrated from ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

"أعلنوا هذا النكاح واجعلوه في المسجد"
“Announce this marriage and conduct it in the mosque.”

📚 Kitāb al-Nikāḥ, Bāb: What is reported regarding announcing the marriage

📌 Ḥadīth Status:

  • Graded ḍaʿīf (weak) in Ḍaʿīf al-Tirmidhī (185)
  • However, Shaykh Ṣubḥī Ḥallāq graded it ḥasan
  • Also cited with positive commentary in al-Taʿlīq ʿalā al-Sayl al-Jarrār: 2/236

❖ Scholarly Opinion

Based on this narration, Imām al-Shawkānī رحمه الله declared holding Nikāḥ in the mosque as mustaḥabb (recommended).

📘 Al-Sayl al-Jarrār: 2/247

❖ Conclusion:

Announcing the Nikāḥ publicly and conducting it in the mosque is recommended in Islam,
✔ Though the ḥadīth has some weakness, scholars like Imām al-Shawkānī and Ṣubḥī Ḥallāq support the practice.

وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالصَّوَابِ
And Allāh knows best what is correct.
