Sharʿī Ruling on Changing Pronouns in Funeral Duʿās

Is it established from the Sunnah to change the pronouns in funeral duʿās according to whether the deceased is one, two, male, or female?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
Some aḥādīth mention the use of masculine pronouns in the supplications of janāzah, while other aḥādīth contain feminine pronouns.
From this it is understood that both usages are correct and permissible:
◈ If the deceased is a man → masculine pronouns may be used.
◈ If the deceased is a woman → feminine pronouns may be used.
Thus, both methods are established from the Sunnah.
Hādhā mā ʿindī, wallāhu aʿlam bis-ṣawāb.
