❖ Question:
Can a goat intended for qurbānī (sacrifice) be castrated?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
- Castrating (or causing castration of) an animal is not permissible.
This ruling is derived from the verse in the Qur’an:
«فَلَیُغَیِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ اﷲِ» (النساء: 119)
“And they will surely alter the creation of Allah.”
From this, it is understood that altering the natural creation of Allah is not allowed. - However, sacrificing a castrated animal is valid,
because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself sacrificed a castrated animal.
