Ruling on Breastfeeding a Child Before Ghusl of Janābah

Source: Fatāwā Muḥammadiyyah, vol. 1, p. 300

Question

Can a woman breastfeed her child before performing ghusl of janābah?

Answer

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!

✿ A woman may breastfeed her child before performing ghusl of janābah. This is completely permissible.
✿ Likewise, she may cook food and even observe a fast before taking ghusl.
✿ However, it is preferable not to breastfeed immediately after intercourse, because at that time the body is heated.
✿ Until the sweat dries and the body cools down, it is better to avoid breastfeeding, so that the child’s health is not negatively affected.
