Ruling on Breaking Fast Based on a Radio or TV Announcement

Question:

One day in Ramadan, the radio announcer declared that the Maghrib Adhan would be called in two minutes. However, at the same time, the local Mu'adhin (caller to prayer) gave the Adhan. Whose announcement should be followed?

Answer:

If the Mu'adhin (caller to prayer) gives the Adhan after actually seeing the sun set, and he is trustworthy, then his Adhan should be followed because he is calling it based on the actual sunset.

However, if the Mu'adhin calls the Adhan based on the clock without observing the sun, then it is more likely that the radio announcer’s timing is more accurate, as clocks may differ from one another. In such a case, following the radio announcement is a safer and more reliable option.
