Ruling on Believing Sacrifice at Graves is Recommended in Islam

❖ What is the Ruling on Believing that Sacrificing at a Grave is Recommended? ❖

Source: Fatāwā Ameenpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Ameenpuri

✿ Question:

What is the ruling regarding a person who believes that sacrificing at a certain grave is recommended (mustahabb)?

✿ Answer:

Declaring any act as recommended or restricting it to a specific place is solely the prerogative of the Shariah. To consider sacrifice at graves as recommended is an act of excessiveness (ghulūw) and an unlawful form of veneration of graves, which is strictly prohibited.

◈ Statement of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) (728H):

من ظن أن التضحية عند القبور مستحبة وأنها أفضل، فهو جاهل ضال مخالف لإجماع المسلمين .
Translation:
Whoever believes that sacrificing near graves is recommended or more virtuous is an ignorant, misguided person, opposing the consensus of the Muslims.
(Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā 27/495)

✅ Conclusion:
Believing that sacrifice at a grave is recommended is a misguided and prohibited belief. It contradicts the consensus of Muslims and falls under unlawful glorification of graves.
