Question:

What is the ruling on applying kohl and combing the hair of the deceased?

Answer:

Applying kohl (surmah) to the deceased is not established. However, arranging and combing the hair is permissible.

Sayyidah Umm ʿAṭiyyah رضي الله عنها reported that after giving the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ a bath, they combed her hair and made three braids.
