Ruling on Aloud Recitation in Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr Prayers

Recitation in Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr: Aloud or Silent?

Source: Fatawa Ameenpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Ameenpuri

❖ Question

In Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr prayers, should the recitation be aloud (jahri) or silent (sirri)?

❖ Answer

If Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr are performed in congregation, the imam should recite aloud. There is consensus (ijma‘) on this ruling, and the practice is established through continuous transmission (tawatur).
