Question

If someone drops the Noble Qur’an by mistake, what is the ruling regarding it? Some people say that if the Qur’an falls from one’s hand, one should give flour equal to its weight. Is this correct?

Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!

◄ In the Qur’an and Sunnah, no specific expiation (kaffārah) has been prescribed regarding this matter.

◄ Therefore, repentance (tawbah) and seeking forgiveness (istighfār) are sufficient.

◄ However, the Qur’an and Sunnah establish that charity (ṣadaqah) serves as expiation for sins.

◄ Hence, if someone wishes, they may give charity, but there is no requirement that it be equal in weight or measure to the Qur’an that fell.
