Rules regarding the exemption for a patient during fasting and treatment:

Question:

I am receiving treatment in the hospital and take medication that causes severe hunger. Should I break my fast or remain patient? I am in my sixteenth year of age and have been receiving special treatment at King Faisal Hospital for about five years now. Last year during the month of Ramadan, the doctor ordered that I receive chemical treatment in my vein while I was fasting, and this treatment was very strong, affecting the stomach and the entire body. One day while I was undergoing this treatment, I felt extremely hungry even though it had been about seven hours since Fajr. Near Asr, I experienced such pain that I felt like I might die, but I did not break my fast until the Maghrib call to prayer. This year during the month of Ramadan, insha'Allah, the doctor will order me to undergo the same treatment. Should I break my fast that day or not? And if I do not break my fast, will I have to make up for that day? Does taking blood from a vein break the fast or not? And similarly, does the treatment I mentioned break the fast or not? Please inform me.

Answer:.

In the month of Ramadan, it is permissible for a sick person not to fast if fasting causes harm to them or is burdensome, or if they need to take pills or medicine during the day for treatment. Because Allah, the Exalted, says:
وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ آيَامٍ أُخَرَ
Reference: (Al-Baqarah: 185)

"And whoever among you is sick or on a journey, then (he should fast) a number of other days."
Who likes to be disobeyed?
Reference: (Musnad Ahmad: 2/108, Musnad Al-Bazzar: 988, Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah: 950, Shuab Al-Iman: 3890)

And in another narration, it is said:
كما يحب أن تؤتى عزائمه
As he likes that his obligatory commands are followed.
Reference: (Sahih Ibn Hibban: 3568)

As for the matter of drawing blood for analysis or any other purpose, the correct opinion is that it does not break the fast. However, if a large amount of blood needs to be taken, it is better to postpone it until the night. If it is done during the day, then the cautious approach is to consider it like cupping and make up for it later.
