Does Returning to Mina After Early Departure Affect the Status of “Hastening”?
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām
If a pilgrim leaves Mina on the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah before sunset with the intention of hastening (taʿajul), but later returns to Mina after sunset for some personal reason, will he still be considered as having departed early or not?
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
Yes, such a pilgrim will still be considered as one who departed early (taʿajul), because:
✿ He has already completed the rites of Hajj.
✿ His return to Mina is for some personal matter, not for performing any remaining rites of Hajj.
✿ Returning for a worldly or personal reason does not affect the ruling of early departure.
Conclusion:
If a pilgrim leaves Mina on the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah before sunset with the intention of hastening, and later returns for a personal reason, he will still be counted among those who departed early.
