Ruling on Accepting Payment for Allowing the Use of One’s Name
It is not permissible for a person to rent out their name or professional title for a fixed payment if they are not actively involved in the work or ensuring proper technical oversight. Doing so constitutes deception and gaining unlawful income, which is prohibited in Islam.Reasons for Prohibition
- Deception:
- Allowing someone to use your professional name without actual involvement misleads others into believing that the person is overseeing or endorsing the work. This is a form of deceit.
- Unlawful Earnings:
- Accepting money for merely renting out one’s name, without providing actual services or supervision, is considered unlawful income (mal haram).
- Lack of Accountability:
- If technical or medical errors occur, the lack of actual involvement or supervision means the individual has indirectly contributed to potential harm or malpractice.
Advice and Permissible Alternatives
- Active Involvement:
- If you wish to associate your name with a clinic or practice, ensure that you are actively involved in its operations and providing genuine oversight.
- Ethical Practice:
- Engage in work where you can maintain professional integrity and fulfill your duties with sincerity and dedication.
- Avoiding Haram:
- Abstain from any arrangement that involves deceit or the acquisition of income without rightful effort or contribution.
