Removing Blemishes and Spots from the Face

Source:
This article is taken from the book 500 Questions and Answers for Women, which is based on the fatwas of the scholars of the Haramain. The book has been translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.

❀ Question:

Some of my friends use honey, milk, and eggs to remove facial blemishes and shadows. Is it permissible for them to do so?

✔ Answer:

It is an established fact that these substances are part of the food provisions created by Allah, the Exalted, for the nourishment of the human body. If a person needs to use them for a specific purpose, such as treatment, then they are not impure, and there is no harm in using them.

Allah the Almighty says:
هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا
[Surah Al-Baqarah 2:29]
"It is He who created for you all that is on the earth."

In this verse, the word "لَكُم" implies general benefit.

As for using these items for beautification purposes, there are many other substances that can achieve the same effect. Hence, using them is better. There is no harm in seeking beauty, for Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty.

However, it is inappropriate to go to extremes in this matter — such that it becomes a person's greatest desire, and they remain entirely absorbed in it, becoming negligent of all religious and worldly responsibilities. This is considered extravagance, and extravagance is disliked by Allah.
