❀ Question:

Was the Prophet ﷺ martyred?

❀ Answer:

Some Rawafid (Shia) claim that (naʿūdhubillah) the Prophet ﷺ was poisoned and martyred by Sayyidah ʿAishah (RA) and others. For this, they misquote a hadith as evidence.

Sayyidah ʿAishah (RA) narrated:

"During the illness of the Prophet ﷺ (leading to his passing), we administered medicine to him. He gestured to us not to give it, but we thought that like any sick person, he disliked taking medicine. When he felt better, he said: ‘Did I not forbid you from giving me medicine?’ We said: ‘We thought you disliked medicine as all sick people do.’ Then the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Let everyone in this house be given this medicine in front of me, except al-ʿAbbas, for he was not present when you gave it to me.’"

In this narration, there is no mention of poison. The family members of the Prophet ﷺ gave him medicine, not poison.

The Rawafid falsely claim that this medicine contained poison, and that is why the Prophet ﷺ ordered everyone to drink it. This is a baseless fabrication and the greatest lie.

The reality is:

  • The Prophet ﷺ signaled not to be given medicine.
  • His family thought he disliked it, as most patients do, and thus still gave it.
  • When the Prophet ﷺ felt better, he reproached them for disobeying his instruction and ordered everyone to drink it as a reprimand — except al-ʿAbbas (RA), who was absent when the medicine was given.

✅ Conclusion:
The Prophet ﷺ was not martyred by poisoning from his household. Such a claim is a fabrication by the Rawafid. The authentic hadith proves only that medicine was administered against his wish, not poison.
