✿ Reciting Durood Ibrahimi During the Sermon (Khutbah): Evidence and Refutation of Objections ✿
Source: Fatāwā ‘Ilmiyyah – Volume 3 – Miscellaneous Issues – Page 277
Some scholars from the Ahl al-Hadith school recite Durood Ibrahimi while delivering the sermon (khutbah) from the pulpit.
A certain individual, labeling the above practice as bid‘ah (innovation), has—may Allah protect us—even gone so far as to claim that reciting Durood Ibrahimi at the beginning of a speech is also bid‘ah.
It is important to clarify that this objector does not deny the legitimacy of saying “As-Salāmu ‘Alaikum” or Durood Ibrahimi themselves, rather, he only labels them as bid‘ah in the particular context mentioned above.
We request a prompt reply in light of the Qur'an and Sunnah:
Is there any evidence from the Qur'an, Sunnah, or scholarly consensus to support or refute his claim?

Reciting Durood upon the Prophet ﷺ during the khutbah (sermon) is established from Sayyiduna ‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (رضي الله عنه).

Sayyidunā ‘Alī (رضي الله عنه) was among the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn (Rightly Guided Caliphs).
And the Sunnah of the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn has been clearly endorsed by the Prophet ﷺ in the Hadith.

It is thus clear that labeling the recitation of Durood Ibrahimi during the sermon as bid‘ah is incorrect and baseless.
This practice is rooted in authentic reports and aligned with the way of the rightly guided caliphs, whose example the Ummah is commanded to follow.
