Recitation for Healing: When the Afflicted Has Neither Jinn nor Magic

Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)

Is there any recommended recitation for someone who is neither afflicted by magic nor by jinn possession?

1. Recitation for Physical Pain

Narration from Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas Al-Thaqafi (RA):
He reported that he complained to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about pain in his body, which he had been experiencing since accepting Islam. The Prophet (ﷺ) advised him:

«ضع يدك على الذى تألم من جيرك، فقل: باسم الله ثلاثا، وقل سبع مرات: أعوذ بالله وقدرته من شر ما أجد و أحاذر»

"Place your hand on the area of your body where you feel pain and say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) three times, then say seven times: 'A‘udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir' (I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and what I fear).”
[Sahih Muslim, Book of Peace, Hadith No. 2202; Sunan Abu Dawood, Book of Medicine, Hadith No. 3891]

2. Recitation for Healing the Sick

Narration from Sayyidah Aisha (RA):
She narrated that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) would visit a sick person from his family, he would pass his right hand over them and recite:

«أذهب البأس رب الناس، اشف أنت الشافي، لا شفاء إلا شفاءك شفاء لا يغادر سقما»

"O Allah! Lord of the people, remove this illness, grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Yours, a healing that leaves no trace of illness."
[Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 5675; Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2191]

3. Supplication During Hardship

Narration from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (RA):
She reported that she heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say:

«ما من عبد تصيبه مصيبة، فيقول: إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون، اللهم أجرني فى مصيبتي، وأخلف لي خيرا منها. إلا اجاره الله فى مصيبته، وأخلف له خيرا منها»
"Whenever a servant of Allah is afflicted with a calamity and recites: 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un, Allahumma ajirni fi musibati, wa akhlif li khayran minha' (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return. O Allah, grant me reward in my affliction and give me something better in return), Allah will surely grant them relief from their affliction and replace it with something better."
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 918; Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 4, Page 67]

Conclusion:

These supplications from the Prophet (ﷺ) are beneficial for any individual experiencing physical pain, sickness, or general hardship, even if their condition is unrelated to magic or jinn possession. They are effective for both spiritual and physical healing and carry immense blessings.
