❖ The Signs of the Universe and Rational Proofs for the Existence of Allah
Source: Fatāwā Rāshidiyyah, p.146
◈ Introductory Clarification
All praise is for Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.
- Throughout history, only a very small number of people denied the existence of Allah.
- Most accepted His existence but committed shirk alongside it.
The Qur’an says:
﴿وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُم بِٱللَّهِ إِلَّا وَهُم مُّشْرِكُونَ﴾ [Yūsuf: 106]
"Most of them do not believe in Allah except while associating partners with Him."
◈ Atheism: The Extremity of Ignorance
- Denying Allah’s existence is pure ignorance.
- Any rational mind cannot deny a Creator for this vast universe.
The Qur’an says:
﴿أَفِى ٱللَّهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ﴾ [Ibrāhīm: 10]
"Is there any doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth?"
◈ Rational Reflection
When humans see even the smallest object, they conclude it must have a maker. How then could the heavens, earth, sun, moon, mountains, rivers, and seas exist without a Creator?
◈ Story of Imām Abū Ḥanīfah (RA) and the Atheist
When an atheist argued in the Abbasid era, Abū Ḥanīfah (RA) gave this analogy:
- “I came late because logs on the Tigris river suddenly joined together by themselves to form a boat, which I boarded to come here.”
- The atheist mocked this as foolish.
- Imām Abū Ḥanīfah (RA) replied: “If a small boat cannot form by itself, how can this vast universe come into existence without a Creator?”
The atheist was silenced.
◈ The Reality of Atheists Today
- Many deny God out of arrogance and stubbornness, not ignorance.
- The Qur’an describes Pharaoh’s people:
﴿وَجَحَدُوا۟ بِهَا وَٱسْتَيْقَنَتْهَآ أَنفُسُهُمْ ظُلْمًا وَعُلُوًّا﴾ [al-Naml: 14]
"They rejected them, though their hearts were convinced, out of injustice and arrogance."
◈ Scientific and Rational Proofs
① The Water System
- From the beginning, Allah sent down a fixed measure of water sufficient until Qiyāmah.
- This same water continues to circulate via seas, rivers, springs, rain, and underground reservoirs.
- Science says water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen. If these gases kept combining freely, there would be floods of water repeatedly.
- Who maintains the balance, allowing water only when needed?
This points clearly to Allah.
② Human Creation
- A single drop of semen contains millions of sperm cells, yet only one succeeds in fertilizing the ovum.
- Women have hundreds of thousands of eggs, yet only one matures at a time.
- What force decides that one sperm fertilizes one egg, while others are blocked?
Neither sperm nor egg has intelligence. Only Allah controls this process.
③ Celestial System
"Each one is floating in its orbit."
- The sun, moon, earth, and countless stars move in perfect harmony.
- No collision, no disorder—sustained for thousands of years.
- If random, chaos would occur.
Human-made satellites and rockets require design and control. How then can massive galaxies exist without a Creator?
Allah says:
"Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth so they do not vanish."
◈ Witness of the Universe
Every atom of creation—mountains, seas, stars—testifies to Allah’s existence.
As Shaykh Saʿdī (RA) said:
"If a blind eye cannot see the sun at midday, the fault lies not in the sun but in the blind eye."
◈ Summary
- Proofs for Allah’s existence are evident in intellect, observation, and scientific reflection.
- Denial stems from arrogance and desire, not from lack of evidence.
- A rational mind affirms instantly that there is a Creator—Allah ﷻ.
