Raising Hands in Prayer and the Book of Medina

Mālik narrated from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim bin Abdullah, from Ibn Umar, who said:

"Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he would begin the prayer, he would raise his hands up to his shoulders, and when he said Takbeer for bowing, and when he raised his head from bowing, he would raise them likewise and say:

'Sami`a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa laka al-hamd'.

He did not do this (raising of hands) during prostration."

Translation of Hadith:

Narrated by (Sayyiduna) Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he started the prayer, he would raise his hands to his shoulders, and when he said the Takbeer for bowing, and when he raised his head from bowing, he would raise them likewise and say:

'Sami`a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa laka al-hamd'.

And he did not do this (raising of hands) during prostrations.
