❖ Ruling on the Wool or Its Price from a Qurbani Animal:
Personal Use or Must It Be Given in Charity?
Source: Fatāwā Muḥammadiyyah, Volume 1, Page 664
❖ Question:
Is it permissible to use the wool of a Qurbani goat (ram) or the money obtained by selling it for personal benefit at home?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. Ammā baʿd:
Huwa al-Muwaffaq.
It is not permissible to use the wool or its sale price of a Qurbani animal for personal use at home.
Rather, both must be given in charity.
Furthermore, shearing (removing) the wool of the Qurbani animal before its sacrifice is also impermissible, as is clarified by the following Hadith:
❖ Prophetic Guidance
(Reported by A’ishah رضي الله عنها)
Translation:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“There is no deed of the son of Ādam on the Day of Sacrifice more beloved to Allah than the spilling of blood (Qurbani). Verily, the animal will appear on the Day of Judgment with its horns, hair, and hooves. Indeed, the blood reaches a high station with Allah before it even touches the ground. So perform the sacrifice with a willing heart.”
❖ Explanation
This Hadith shows:
✿ Just as the horns and hooves of the sacrificial animal remain intact, its hair or wool should also remain untouched until the time of sacrifice.
✿ On the Day of Judgment, the entire animal — horns, hair, and hooves — will be presented, and even the hair will have weight in the scales of deeds.
Conclusion:
✔ It is not permissible to use the wool or its price for personal benefit.
✔ The wool or any money earned from it must be given in charity (ṣadaqah).
✔ It is not allowed to remove the wool from the sacrificial animal before the sacrifice.
