Remedy for Envy Through the Recitation of the Qur’an

Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha

❖ Question:

How can envy (ḥasad) be treated through the Qur’an?

❖ Answer:

The treatment of envy is done through the recitation of the following Sūrahs:

✿ Sūrah al-Kāfirūn [109:1–6]

“Say: O disbelievers! I do not worship what you worship. Nor are you worshippers of what I worship. Nor will I worship what you have worshipped. Nor will you worship what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is mine.”

✿ Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ [112:1–4]

“Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.”

✿ Sūrah al-Falaq [113:1–5]

“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak, from the evil of what He has created, from the evil of darkness when it settles, from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”

✿ Sūrah al-Nās [114:1–6]

“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer who whispers in the breasts of mankind, from among jinn and mankind.”
