Qur’anic and Prophetic Treatment for Magic and the Evil Eye

❖ Question
In the case of being afflicted by magic or the evil eye, what treatment is prescribed in the Qur’an and Hadith?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
✿ Treatment for Magic
- One should supplicate to Allah ﷻ.
- Recite the Muʿawwidhatayn (Sūrat al-Falaq and Sūrat al-Nās).
✿ Treatment for the Evil Eye
◄ Perform ruqyah (reciting supplications and blowing).
◄ Bathe with the water left from the ablution of the one who cast the evil eye.
Both are legislated treatments.
✿ Ruqyah (Supplication) for the Evil Eye
The following supplication is recited:
اَعُوْذُ بِکَلِمَاتِ اللّٰہِ التَّامَّة مِنْ کُلِّ شَیْطَانٍ وَہَامَّة وَمِنْ کُلِّ عَیْنٍ لَامَّة
“I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil, poisonous creature, and every harmful eye.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 3371)
◄ If reciting for another person, replace اَعُوْذُ with اُعِیْذُكَ.
