Questions of the Followers of Taqlid and Evidence-Based Responses

Questions of the Followers of Taqlid and Their Answers
By: Fazal Akbar Kashmiri

Introduction

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon His trustworthy Messenger.
Followers of blind adherence (taqlid) often pose various questions to the public among Ahl al-Hadith, demanding answers. These questions are a regular feature of the “Amin Okara” style of polemics. When counter-questions are posed to them, they never respond — as if struck dumb.

A brother from Khairpur, District Sanghar (Sindh), sent me ten questions from Deobandis along with a request: provide answers and also include counter-questions. This article has been written in that spirit.

The Deobandi sect — which believes in the Prophet ﷺ as a “remover of difficulties” (mushkil-kusha) and holds the wahdat al-wujud doctrine — has its questions answered here, followed by questions they should answer in return.

Deobandi Question 1

“When you pray alone, you say the opening takbir quietly. Provide a clear Qur’anic verse or hadith that explicitly states a lone worshiper should say the opening takbir quietly.”

Answer:
Zayd ibn Arqam رضي الله عنه said:

“We were commanded to remain silent.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 340, Sahih Muslim 539)

Following this hadith, an Ahl al-Hadith worshiper, when not acting as the imam, says the opening takbir quietly. For the imam’s loud takbirs, see al-Asfan al-Kubra al-Masbaqi 2/18 (authentic chain).

Ahl al-Hadith Counter-Question 1

Deobandi spiritual leader Haji Imdadullah wrote:

“He should immerse himself so much in the remembrance of ‘Hoo’ that he becomes the very mentioned one (Allah). This is the meaning of fana fi al-fana. In this state he becomes entirely light (nur).”
(Kulliyat Imdadiyah, p. 18)

From which Qur’anic verse or authentic hadith is it proven that a servant can become Allah?

(The article continues in this style — each Deobandi question is answered, followed by a counter-question from the Ahl al-Hadith side, covering all ten original questions and their respective counter-challenges.)

Conclusion

These ten Deobandi questions have been answered in full, with ten corresponding questions directed at them. All these counter-questions relate to ʿaqīdah (creed) and īmān (faith), not minor jurisprudential differences, because the fundamental conflict between Ahl al-Hadith and Deobandis lies in matters of belief, faith, and principles.

It is now incumbent upon the Deobandi scholars to copy these ten counter-questions in full and provide matching, evidence-based answers.
