Purpose of Jinn and Human Creation: A Divine Perspective

❖ Divine Wisdom Behind the Creation of Jinn and Humans ❖
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām

◈ Introduction

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʾAmma baʿd!

Before answering this question, it is appropriate to draw attention to a fundamental principle that governs Allah’s creation and His divine law (Sharīʿah). This principle is derived from the following verses:

❖ Allah’s Knowledge and Wisdom

Allah ﷻ says:

(Sūrah at-Taḥrīm: 2)

“And He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.”

And He says:

(Sūrah an-Nisāʾ: 24)

“Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing and All-Wise.”

From these and numerous other verses, we understand a universal principle:
Every aspect of Allah’s creation and every command of His Sharīʿah is filled with wisdom, even if that wisdom is hidden from us.

  • Every created or decreed matter is grounded in Divine Wisdom.
  • Every ruling in the Sharīʿah—be it an obligation, prohibition, permissibility, or restriction—carries a divine purpose.
  • Whether we perceive this wisdom or not, it is certainly present.

Some people, through Allah’s grace, are granted understanding of this wisdom, while others are not.

❖ The True Wisdom Behind the Creation of Jinn and Humans

Once this principle is clear, we now state the divine objective behind the creation of jinn and humans:
They have been created for a magnificent and noble purposethe worship of Allah alone.

Allah ﷻ says:

(Sūrah adh-Dhāriyāt: 56)

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”

❖ Additional Evidences from the Qur’ān

Allah ﷻ further says:

(Sūrah al-Muʾminūn: 115)

“Did you think that We created you in vain and that you would not be returned to Us?”

And:

(Sūrah al-Qiyāmah: 36)

“Does man think that he will be left neglected?”

These verses emphasize that human existence is not purposeless, but deeply rooted in divine planning and expectation of accountability.

❖ The True Meaning of Worship (ʿIbādah)

The overwhelming wisdom behind the creation of jinn and humans is to engage in worship of Allah.
Worship (ʿibādah) means:

✔ Expressing love, reverence, and humility before Allah ﷻ.
✔ This expression takes form by:

  • Obeying Allah’s commands
  • Refraining from what He has forbidden

Allah ﷻ states:

(Sūrah al-Bayyinah)

“And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth…”

❖ Rebelling Against This Divine Purpose

The creation of jinn and humans is based on this core objective—worshiping Allah alone.
If someone:

  • Rebels against Allah
  • Refuses to worship Him out of arrogance or negligence

Then such a person is violating the very wisdom and purpose of their creation.

Though they may not explicitly say so, their defiance and disobedience practically reflect a denial of Allah’s purpose in creation—as though claiming Allah created them without reason.

❖ Conclusion

Allah ﷻ is All-Wise and All-Knowing. The creation of every being, particularly the jinn and humans, is based on a profound wisdom: the exclusive worship of Allah.
Turning away from this purpose is not only a rejection of servitude but a rebellion against the very wisdom embedded in one’s existence.
