Prophetic Teachings: Dressing Humanity in the Robes of Civilization

By: Hamid Kamaluddin

❖ A Prophet of Supreme Morality

This is the Prophet ﷺ who came as the highest example of moral excellence—restoring the robe of civilization to a humanity stripped bare by injustice and exploitation. He uprooted every form of oppression—whether it was religious, moral, cultural, or truth-based. In a world where tyranny and ignorance had reached their peak, the final Messenger of God ﷺ left no remnant of falsehood untouched.

❖ Exploitation in the Name of God

The gravest lie is the one uttered in God’s name, and the greatest injustice is the one committed under His banner. The burden of oppression and ignorance on humanity had grown so heavy that the soul, intellect, reason, and conscience were all buried—and tragically, this was all done in the name of religion.

History recounts tales of every nation, religion, and temple, exposing such brutal acts that human dignity bows in shame. When Muhammad ﷺ restored dignity to civilization, every religion was forced to hide its disgrace. The rise of Muhammadan ﷺ Prophethood triggered a profound transformation across all religions—a process that continues to this day.

❖ The Honor of Women and the Civilizational Revolution

Contrast the past: idols were worshipped in the Kaʿbah, and men and women performed the Ṭawāf in complete nudity, believing it to be a path to divine proximity. Now witness the moment of the Conquest of Makkah—idols removed from the Kaʿbah, and all of Arabia watching in astonishment as the Prophet ﷺ stands triumphant.

❖ The End of Exploitation and the Rise of Women's Honor

Pre-Islamic society regarded women as commodities—sources of income for the elite. But when the Prophet ﷺ entered Yathrib, he declared the end of this exploitative system. The Qur’an proclaimed:

"And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, seeking thereby the temporary gains of worldly life." (Sūrah al-Nūr: 33)

This is the Prophet ﷺ whose teachings are still revered by large parts of the world. When his guidance settles deep in the heart, an era of purity and morality descends upon the earth.

❖ From Yathrib to Madinah: Foundations of Civilization

Through the blessing of the Prophet’s ﷺ footsteps, Yathrib became Madinah—a city whose very name became synonymous with civilization. Madinah was transformed into a society that would become a global model for refinement and order.

ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها recounts:
“By Allah, I have never seen anyone more earnest in affirming the Book of Allah and believing in divine revelation than the women of the Anṣār. When the verse of Sūrah al-Nūr was revealed commanding women to draw their veils over their chests and not display their adornment, their men recited Allah’s words to them. There was not a single woman who did not grab her sheet and wrap herself fully. By the next morning, they were all veiled behind the Prophet ﷺ, as though black crows were perched upon their heads.”
(Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr, Sūrah al-Nūr)

❖ Madinah and the Purification of Society

Alcohol was deeply rooted in Arab culture—so much so that Arabic had over 250 terms for wine. But when the divine command was revealed prohibiting it, those who once drank abandoned their cups, smashed their pitchers, and poured wine through the streets of Madinah.

Imām al-Bukhārī writes:

"Then wine flowed through the streets of Madinah."

❖ From the Darkness of Ignorance to the Light of Revelation

Once, there was the pitch-dark age of Jāhiliyyah. Now, there is a divine book that honored women as mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters. Sūrah al-Nūr, literally “The Light,” has been recited in believers’ homes for over 1400 years—and it continues to shame those who rise against women's dignity.

❖ A Lasting Standard of Morality

These are the commands and teachings of Muhammad ﷺ—still standing today as a formidable standard and radiant example against every social vice.
