✦ Authentic Supplications for Visiting the Sick

① Dua Taught by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the Sick

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“No Muslim visits a fellow Muslim whose death has not yet approached, and then supplicates for him with the following words, except that Allah grants him cure from his illness:”

Arabic:
أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ

Translation:

“I ask Allah — the Almighty, Lord of the Magnificent Throne — to grant you healing.”

② Consoling Words of the Prophet ﷺ to a Sick Bedouin

Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما narrated:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to visit a Bedouin who was suffering from fever. The Prophet ﷺ said:

Arabic:
لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Translation:

“No harm — it is purification (from sins), if Allah wills.”

③ Glad Tidings for a Sick Muslim Woman

Umm al-ʿAlā’ رضي الله عنها narrated:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me while I was ill. He said:

“O Umm al-ʿAlā’, rejoice! Indeed, the illness of a Muslim removes his sins just as fire removes impurities from gold and silver.”
