Encouragement to Attend the Eid Prayer in the Eid Ground
Written by: Imran Ayyub Lahori

❖ Going Outside the Town for Eid Prayer is Recommended (Mustahabb)

Narrated by Abu Saʿīd al-Khudrī (رضي الله عنه):

"The Prophet ﷺ used to go out to the Musallā (Eid ground) on the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adḥā."

📚 [Bukhārī: 956, Book of Jumuʿah: Chapter on Going to the Musallā without a Minbar; Muslim: 889]

➋ When a caravan testified to sighting the moon on the previous night, the Prophet ﷺ instructed:

"In the morning, they should go to their Musallā (Eid ground)."

📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd: 1026, Book of Prayer: Chapter on When the Imam Does Not Go Out for Eid; Abū Dāwūd: 1157; Aḥmad: 58/5; Nasāʾī: 180/3; Ibn Mājah: 1653; Dārquṭnī: 170/2; Bayhaqī: 316/3]

❖ Conclusion

It becomes evident that the Prophet ﷺ consistently preferred performing the Eid prayer in the Eid ground, not inside the mosque.
This practice was regularly maintained, establishing it as a Sunnah of action (Sunnah ʿAmalīyyah).
