Questioner: Abū ʿAbdul-Quddūs, District Sheikhupura

❖ The Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:

① In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Kitāb al-Īmān, Bāb Nuzūl ʿĪsā ibn Maryam, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself uttered the words ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam. Please refer to it.

All the books of ḥadīth indicate that the Companions رضي الله عنهم used to say ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam even during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ. For a tacit approval (taqrīrī ḥadīth), it is sufficient that this action was carried out in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ and he remained silent, thereby approving it.

② As for the phrase ʿalayhiṣ-ṣalātu was-salām, I do not know of any report where it has specifically been used.
