Question:
What is the ruling regarding naskh (abrogation) in the Sharʿī rulings?

Answer:
The proof of abrogation is found in the Qur’an, Hadith, and the consensus of the Ummah.

“While the people of Qubāʾ were praying Fajr, a man came and said: ‘Last night Qur’an was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he has been commanded to face the Kaʿbah, so turn towards it.’ Their faces were towards Shām, so they turned towards the Kaʿbah.”
    (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 403, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 526)
  • Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr رحمه الله (463H) said:
“This hadith demonstrates the occurrence of naskh in the rulings of Allah. It is an issue that needs no further elaboration, as the people of truth are unanimously agreed upon it.”
    (al-Tamhīd 23/134)
