❖ Question

What is the ruling on keeping two sisters in marriage at the same time?

❖ Answer

It is haram to marry two sisters simultaneously. The Qur’an and Hadith bear testimony to this, and there is also ijma‘ (consensus) on it.

❀ Allah Almighty has said:

﴿وَأَنْ تَجْمَعُوا بَيْنَ الْأُخْتَيْنِ﴾
(An-Nisa: 23)

“And that you combine two sisters (in marriage) – this has also been forbidden for you.”

❀ Ḥafiz Ibn Daqiq al-ʿEid (رحمه الله, 702H) said:

تحريم الجمع بين الأختين فى النكاح متفق عليه.

“The prohibition of combining two sisters in marriage is agreed upon unanimously.”
(Ihkam al-Ahkam Sharh Umdat al-Ahkam, 2/172)
