What is the Islamic ruling regarding wine made from grapes?
Answer:
Wine made from grapes is unanimously ḥarām. Both its small and large amounts are prohibited. Its prohibition is established through authentic ahadith and the consensus (ijmāʿ) of the Ummah.
❀ Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar رحمه الله (d. 852H) said:
قد انعقد الإجماع على أن القليل من الخمر المتخذ من العنب يحرم قليله وكثيره.
“Consensus has been established that wine made from grapes is forbidden, both in small and large amounts.”
(Fatḥ al-Bārī: 10/40)
