❀ Prohibition of Building Mosques Over Graves ❀
Written by: Imran Ayyub Lahori
Islamic teachings strictly prohibit constructing mosques over graves, as this leads to innovations in religion and potential forms of shirk (associating partners with Allah). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ condemned this practice in multiple authentic narrations.
➊ Narrated by ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها:
"May Allah curse the Jews and Christians; they took the graves of their prophets as places of worship."
(لعن الله اليهود والنصارى اتخذوا قبور أنبيائهم مساجد)

Building mosques over graves is strictly forbidden in Islam.
It was the practice of misguided nations that the Prophet ﷺ warned against.
It can lead to shirk, innovation, and distortion of Islamic worship.
This prohibition is backed by clear and authentic narrations, and the consensus of major scholars.
