⭑ Professions Present During the Prophetic Era ⭑

① Goldsmithing


‘Ali رضي الله عنه said:


“When I intended to bring the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Fatimah رضي الله عنها, home (after marriage), I arranged with a goldsmith from Banu Qaynuqa‘ that he would accompany me so that we could collect idkhir grass together, for I intended to sell it to the goldsmiths and use its price for the wedding feast.”

② Blacksmithing


Allah says regarding Dawud عليه السلام:
﴿وَأَلَنَّا لَهُ الْحَدِيدَ﴾ [Saba: 10]


“…and We made iron soft for him.”


Khabbab رضي الله عنه said:


“In the Days of Ignorance, I was a blacksmith.”
[Bukhari: 2091, Kitab al-Buyu‘, Bab: Dhikr al-Qayn wal-Haddad]


③ Tailoring


Anas رضي الله عنه narrated:


“A tailor invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to a meal that he had prepared.”
[Bukhari: 2092, Kitab al-Buyu‘, Bab: Dhikr al-Khayyat]


④ Weaving Cloth


A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said:


“I have woven this garment with my own hands specifically to clothe you with it.”
[Bukhari: 2093, Kitab al-Buyu‘, Bab: Dhikr al-Nassaj]


⑤ Carpentry


The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a pulpit for the mosque made by a female slave who was a carpenter.
[Bukhari: 2094, Kitab al-Buyu‘, Bab al-Najjar]


⑥ Cupping (Hijama)


The Prophet ﷺ said:


“Abu Taybah رضي الله عنه cupped the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he ordered that he be given one sā‘ of dates (as payment).”
[Bukhari: 2102, Kitab al-Buyu‘, Bab: Dhikr al-Hajjām]
