Praying with Shoes After Using Washroom – Ruling Explained

❀ Ruling on Praying with Shoes After Coming from the Washroom ❀

Question:

If a person comes from the washroom and performs prayer while wearing shoes, is this permissible or not?

Answer by:

Shaykh Abdul Wakeel Nasir ḥafiẓahullāh

The fundamental condition for prayer is ṭahārah (purification). If a person's shoes are free from impurity (najāsa), then there is no objection to performing prayer in them. If he has already performed wuduʼ and is wearing leather socks or similar items upon which masḥ (wiping) is performed, then his action is valid.

Furthermore, in today's times, modern washrooms are generally clean and constructed in a hygienic manner, with minimal chances of impurity spreading. Therefore, if one is certain that the shoes have not become impure, then praying while wearing them is permissible.
